The Greater Little Rock Bahá’í community gathered with friends from various religious traditions on the evening of January 21 to celebrate World Religion Day together at the Little Rock Bahá’í Center. The celebration was held in conjunction with the community’s regularly scheduled devotional meetings at the Center, which are held the third Saturday of every month.
Observances of World Religion Day began in the United States in 1950 and have since spread across the world in order to “promote understanding and dialogue between the followers of all religions, call attention to the common foundation of their spiritual principles and emphasize that ‘Religion must be the cause of unity.'”
The program featured readings from the Scriptures of the world’s major religions, including Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Zoroastrianism and the Bahá’í Faith. Music was provided from the Bahá’í community of North Little Rock, and teachers and children from the Little Rock Bahá’í Center’s children’s class shared a story about the unity of religion from the Bahá’í religious tradition. Finally, participants enjoyed a game highlighting the unity of religion and the universal truths found in the Scriptures of all the world’s religions.
The next Third Saturday devotional meeting will be held at the Little Rock Bahá’í Center on February 18th, 2012.
